After a lovely day in Florence

1h and 20 mins in the car and we are in Florence. We leave our car near Piazza Michelangelo, enjoy the amazing view and walk to the centre. After a few hours of walking, shopping and a visit to the impressive exposition of Marina Ambramovic we arrive back home late, but , no problem my dinner is quickly ready.

This morning I mixed 200 grams of feta cheese cubes with 1 table spoon of olive oil, 2 teaspoons of fennel seeds and ¼ teaspoon of chili flakes and I put 300 grams of peeled shrimps in a colander in the fridge to defrost.

Chop and fry 4 garlic cloves in some olive oil. Add 180 grams of barley, the zeste of an orange, 2 teaspoons of fennel seeds and ¼ teaspoon of chili flakes. Once the barley becomes glazy, add 5 chopped fresh tomatoes. Stir now and again, in the same way you would prepare a risotto. Add some stock if necessary. Taste, add pepper and salt. During the last few mins add the shrimps and a handful of chopped basil. Finish with the marinated feta cubes.

Serve and enjoy the last evening dinner in the nice company of Leen.

PS What a great book, Ottolenghi Simple!
